Company Blogs

One of my biggest pet peeves is reading a company’s blog where authors frequently use introductory clauses like “Here at [Company Name] … ” or “At [Company Name], we …”

I’m not sure what it is about those little insignificant phrases, but they send an over-the-top “corporate messaging” vibe to me. That kind of messaging is acceptable and almost expected in mediums like press releases, but on a blog, I can’t help but visualize the author with a pasted-on smile giving me the wink-and-the-gun.

Here at HalfwayNowhere.com, we’ll never give that impression to any of our readers.

See what I mean? Can you hear the faux-sincerity shining through?

I’m not claiming that I’m without sin when it comes to this practice, but I’ve become much more aware of it as of late. I’m also not completely condemning the use of the phrases … You might be able to get away with using it in the context of “I’m a Widget Maker here at [Company Name],” but even like that, it still sounds smarmy.
