I’m not mad at OU. They’ve had a good season. But it is complete bullshit that both of the teams in the Big 12 championship were beaten by the same team, which is being forced to sit it out, and it is even more bullshit that one of those teams could go on to the national championship, despite being beaten already by a team with a record that is just as strong.
The thing is, if the Texas-OU game had happened last weekend instead of in October, Texas would be in the number 2 spot and OU would be sitting out, as they should be. When your season is not decided based on overall record, but rather on however exciting the last game of the season was, that is stupid. It’s like being in a college class and you have two exams and a final, and at the end of the semester, the professor goes, “Oh, btw, those first two tests didn’t count.”
I can’t really fault Oklahoma for playing well at the end of the season either.
As a Texas fan, I know that the best way to have avoided this outcome was to keep Tech out of the endzone at the end of the game in Lubbock.
