Replying back to jakoblodwick:
A silly premise that some religionists clutch: that atheists “don’t believe in anything”. False like the idea that atheists think we “evolved from rocks”.
I believe in life on Earth, right now. I beileve in my own mind, and I find meaning in music. I love innovation.
I believe that my own happiness is my ultimate goal — and that living for God, for the white race, for the ecosphere, or any other so-called “higher” entity is a vicious act of self-betrayal.
If something I do makes you happy, that’s cool. It makes me smile. I like making things that people like — it’s a good way to make a living.
I completely appreciate that perspective … The nihilism comment was not as much directed at you as it was a stream-of-consciousness observation (which essentially turned into a bad generalization). Because I simply used breaks in the “edit” screen without the paragraph html, the post didn’t really reflect those breaks in thought, so I’ve corrected the way it is displayed.
Personally, I respect anyone who is willing to believe in something for themselves through their own thought and introspection. My intention was not to belittle or over-generalize in response, but the sensitive nature of the issue at hand provides very little leeway for poorly chosen words.
